Fire and Fell Home-Ed
Fire and Fell Home Ed group is a drop-off session for home-educated or flexi-schooled children who are primary-aged. The sessions run from 10-2pm and cost £25 for the session with a block-booking discount. We hope that the same children will come so that children can get to know each other and work together more effectively. A 10% sibling discount is also available.
The sessions are rooted in the forest-school ethos and so are outdoors, child-led and play-based. We have weekly themes and activities that children can explore and enjoy, alongside options such as mud play, hammocks and den-building. Structured activities might include planting and harvesting our own fruits and veg, nature exploration, team games, fire-lighting, outdoor cookery and tool use.
We plan to be outside for the entire session and have multiple shelters for use if the weather becomes inclement. On the main outdoor site, we use an outdoor camping toilet. We also have a building and indoor toilet to use if it's needed.
We are based in Caldbeck and are really lucky to have Caldbeck common SSSI to explore right next door to our site. This is great for team games and nature exploration. We operate with small ratios, currently with 1:5 ratio to preserve the quality and safety in sessions.
What we'll do
Our sessions are outdoors, child-led and play-based. Children have the space and freedom to play outdoors however they choose — building dens, making mud pies, swinging in hammocks and playing games with their friends!
We also always have structured activities each session on offer. These could include; tool use campfire cooking, outdoor crafts and games.
As well as a myriad of creative projects, we will cover parts of the early years and key stage 1 and 2 learning (depending on age and appropriateness), be it in a creative, nature and play based way. This will be done once the group is more established and confident in the setting.

Sun hat, sun tan lotion (according to the season)

A refillable water bottle — fresh air and adventure is thirsty work!
A spare change of clothes is always great to have just in case.
Inclusivity
Our Home-Ed sessions are open to all children. The outdoors is a brilliant environment for neurodivergent children and those with additional needs, and we strive to make every child feel welcome. Between us, our staff have twenty years' experience working with SEND students in the outdoors.
We currently work on a ratio of 1:8, and children attending would need to be able to participate with this level of support. Please get in touch before booking if you'd like to discuss your child's needs and how they might best access the session.
